KEEP A THANKFUL HEART

Richard Wurmbrand was a Romanian who lived from 1909-2001. His testimony of the sufferings and torture he endured for his faith in Jesus Christ has been well documented and can be easily found and read on a Google search. He was imprisoned in Romania by the then Communist regime for publicly declaring that Communism and Christianity were not compatible. In later years when his freedom had been bought, he often traveled to encourage the persecuted church. On one occasion when he was being taken to minister and testify in the U.S., he asked the brother who was helping take him around a question. As he leaned his physically weakened body on him, he enquired, “How is it that I share all over the world the fact that when you come to Jesus, it may cost you everything. But here in the west, I hear a different gospel preached that when you come to Jesus, you can HAVE everything?” In some of our western churches we have such a wrong idea of what it may cost to follow Jesus. Thankfully, at this present time, we are not imprisoned or tortured for our faith. Our challenges in the western world are different to the persecuted church, our brothers and sisters in Christ, in other parts of the globe, but nevertheless, we all have challenges in our walk of faith. We have...

DO I TRUST IN MY EXPERIENCE….OR CHRIST?

If I accept what the word of God says about the depravity of a human heart and the depths I can sink to, without God’s grace and mercy on me, then I do not have to prove it. It does not have to be my experience. Do I believe that without the Lord’s hand upon me I can be capable of any sin? We all need a Saviour and a Redeemer. After receiving salvation from Jesus Christ, we discover He is also our “Keeper” as the great Shepherd of our souls. God’s word declares, “As it is written; There is none righteous, no, not one.” Romans 3:10. Romans 3:23 “For all have sinned and come short of the glory of God.” God’s word is plain, in our own flesh and standing, we cannot reach the mark of His righteousness, but hallelujah!…..He has made a way, a plan to bring us all in, if we choose to receive and follow Jesus Christ, His Son. This gospel is a “whosoever” gospel, (John 3:16), made available to all who will humble themselves to recognise their need of a Saviour, and receive Him into their heart. Here is where the divine exchange takes place: By receiving Jesus as my Saviour by faith in His finished work at Calvary, I become the righteousness of God. Now my standing is in His grace alone. I...

WHERE IS MY BLIND SPOT?

A life without order displays chaos. Our God is a God of order and His purpose is to bring divine order to every Believer’s life in the Body of Christ. Life is a journey. We are all at different stages on this journey, none of us have reached our final destination, as yet. We may not have “arrived”, but by God’s grace, we have “left” and have left many things along the way that no longer hold meaning or attraction to us. As I yield to the power of the greater attraction, the Indwelling Christ, ungodly desires fall away. When the Holy Spirit inspired men to write the holy scriptures in the Bible, He did not cover up men’s feet of clay. He allowed us to see that there are no wonderful men, but only a wonderful, Almighty God, our Heavenly Father. In spite of this, many people have the Apostle Paul on a pedestal, as a “wonderful” man of God, but like all men, he too, had a blind spot. When Paul was converted on the Damascus road the Lord gave him a commission. Acts 9:15 records the order of his commission as told to Ananias by God, speaking of Paul: “But the Lord said unto him, ‘Go thy way, for he is a chosen vessel unto me, to bear my name before the Gentiles, and kings and...

THE TRIUMPHANT LIFE

2 Corinthians 2:14 “NOW thanks be unto God, which ALWAYS causeth us to triumph in Christ, and maketh manifest the savour of His knowledge by us in EVERY PLACE.” When Jesus was tempted by the devil in the wilderness, He answered in reply: “It is written, ‘Man shall not live by bread alone, but by every word that proceedeth out of the mouth of God'”. (Matthew 4). We understand that the written word, (the Bible), is only a “logos” word until the Holy Spirit quickens it to me as a “rhema” word, (living). However, there are written words that are constantly living words. In the word quoted above, (2 Cor. 2:14), the word NOW is always in the present tense. I cannot move it into the future or back into the past. NOW is NOW and is emphasizing that a thankful heart to God will ALWAYS cause us to triumph in Christ. It does not matter what situation I find myself in, nor what circumstance comes my way, whether a challenge in my physical body, my finances, relationships or any other difficult challenge – NOW is NOW. When I give thanks to God, it ALWAYS causes me to triumph in Christ. In this one verse there are three constants which, if applied, causes us to triumph in Christ: NOW, ALWAYS and EVERY PLACE. I cannot slip out of this....

THE POWER OF CHOICE

CONSIDER……How important it is to consider right thoughts. The highest is to consider the greatness of our God! The problem arises when I consider the greatness of negative circumstances instead of worshiping the God of my circumstances. Jesus said, “Blessed are the pure in heart for they shall see God,” Matthew 5:8. God rewards heart purity with the peace of His presence. On the other hand, if I “kick against the pricks”, judge or blame God for my situation instead of “seeing Him in all things”, then I am in rebellion. No good thing comes out of that. Unless I humble myself and repent, I will suffer the consequences of a hard heart: deaf ears to the word of God and blind eyes, unable to see God in my situation. Ezekiel 12:2 describes a rebellious house, “….you dwell in the midst of a rebellious house, which have eyes to see and see not, they have ears to hear and hear not, for they are a rebellious house.” This house holds no appeal for a peaceable life in Christ and yet, our choices can take us there. Consider this simple statement: KNOW GOD, KNOW PEACE. NO GOD, NO PEACE. When God created man, He gave him the power of choice. Choice governs. My wrong choices can limit the Unlimited One, Almighty God. Psalm 78:41 speaking of the waywardness of the...

DEATH TO OLD MINDSETS!

How is it we are still experiencing problems in our thinking after we have been born again? We are made up of body, soul and spirit. It is our spirit that has been renewed at salvation but our mind, contained in our soul, is being renewed daily as we still have the old mind set. Our minds have to be transformed by the word of God. This can only come as we submit to Him. As always with our daily walk, humility is the key. Romans 12:1-3 has the answer, this is true worship. “I beseech you therefore, brethren, by the mercies of God, that you present your bodies a living sacrifice, holy, acceptable to God, which is your reasonable service. Do not be conformed to this world, but be transformed by the renewing of your mind, that you may prove what is that good, and acceptable and perfect will of God. For I say, through the grace given me, to every man among you, not to think of himself more highly than he ought to think, but to think soberly, according as God has dealt to every man the measure of faith.” Verse 2 highlights “….be transformed by the renewing of your minds…” Here is that paradigm shift again. We are instructed to “judge no man after the flesh”, but we make judgements of people all the time...

WHERE IS THE AUTHORITY IN MY WORDS?…..

Have you ever felt trapped and despondent in your circumstances? Stuck! Even afraid? No apparent way out? Such was the plight of the children of Israel, recorded in Exodus 14. Pharaoh’s Egyptian army was marching towards them and they were trapped by the Red Sea. They feared death and no deliverance from the imminent danger. Moses had been called of God and appointed their leader. With the appointment came a God-given authority: Where the appointment is, the provision is. What God demands, He supplies! Exodus 14:vs. 13-14: “And Moses said to the people, “Fear not, stand still, and see the salvation of the Lord which He will show to you today, for the Egyptians whom you have seen today, you shall see them no more forever. The Lord shall fight for you and you shall hold your peace”. One can picture the scene and hear the God given authority in Moses’ words. The record continues in the next verses showing that the Lord required Moses to use what He had equipped him with, that is, the rod of God. Whom God calls, He equips!…for His divine purposes. Verses 15: “The Lord said to Moses, ‘Why are you crying unto me? Speak to the children of Israel to go forward: But you, lift up your rod and stretch out your hand over the sea and divide it, and the children...

LEAN NOT ON YOUR OWN UNDERSTANDING……

Common sense in the natural man is necessary for daily living. We are careful not to touch hot stoves, knowing the danger of suffering a burn. We take care when crossing a busy road, in order not to collide with motorists. However, in the Spirit realm, sense knowledge has to bow, to allow God to have the final say. Common sense is something we all live by, but it is never final. Praise God for the medical advancement of our day and for the knowledge and skill of doctors and surgeons. Many people suffer from illnesses and receive the doctors’ report on their condition as final. When given a diagnosis from a doctor, we need to find out what God says about our bodies. The doctors do not have the final word, God does, and His word is creative. Thank God for the doctors. Millions have benefited from modern medicine, but ultimately, our trust must be in the Lord and what He says, not the doctors. Let God have the last word and accept what He says, not the doctors. Sense knowledge has to bow to the word of God. Proverbs 3:5 “Trust in the Lord with all your heart and do not lean on your own understanding.” My natural understanding cannot be applied to the spirit realm. Here, I discover, it is not to be trusted in. My...

HOW GOD WORKS FOR HIS NAMES SAKE

In Ezekiel 20: v 9-14 & 22…Three times in the same chapter God says how he wrought for his name sake, that it should not be polluted before the heathen among whom they were, and in whose sight he made himself known unto them, in bringing them forth out of the land of Egypt. As we read this chapter, (Ezekiel 20) it recalls how first God made himself known to the house of Israel when they were in Egypt. This is a historical account which is a type of our personal experience when God revealed himself to us when we were in the world. The account continues to explain in verse 11 how God gave them his statutes, & showed them his judgments, which, if a man did he would live in them. The observance and obedience to these was to become a life style. Of course we understand that in the old testament we could not keep the law, but in the new testament, the gospel of Jesus Christ has been given, and the indwelling of Jesus in a believer is the one who fulfills that which God demands. Even so, there is much to learn from the historical accounts of the children of Israel and how it applies to our present  day situation. Just as God brought them out of Egypt into the wilderness, the purpose was...

THE EFFECTIVENESS OF FAITH

Philemon v 6: That the communication of thy faith may become effectual by the acknowledging of every good thing which is in you in Christ Jesus. Many times whilst seeking to express or communicate our faith to other people, ( whether believers or not ) we fail to see that our words are ineffective because either we allow others to put honour on our flesh or we seek to project or seek honour for ourselves instead of honouring every good thing which is in you in Christ Jesus, as the scripture in Philemon 6 mentions. The Lord Jesus says in… John 5: 44  “How can ye believe, which receive honour one of another, and seek not the honour that cometh from God only”?  Also… John 8: 54-55  “If I honour myself, my honour is nothing: it is my Father that honoureth me; of whom ye say, that he is your God: yet ye have not known him. God gives us the gift of faith proportionately and the more I come to know him intimately in relationship the more effective my life becomes in communicating the faith he has given me. Philemon v 6 says…That the communication of thy faith may become effectual by the acknowledging of every good thing which is in you in Christ Jesus. How does it become effectual? When I see the importance that God puts...
