PEACE MANAGEMENT

If I am sensitive to a ruffle, I don’t have to have a storm! Keep sensitive to the Holy Spirit of God: Colossians 3:15 “Let the peace of God rule in your heart.” Isaiah 26:3 “Thou wilt keep him in perfect peace whose mind is stayed on Thee, because he trusts in...

REACT OR RESPOND

A sister in the Lord, now in her seventies, shared the following testimony: This is Jean’s account of how it is never too late to change. The Lord took Jean back to her childhood and reminded her of how unfair her mother had been to her. She was often more strict with her than with her other siblings, and if Jean was chastised, her mother would then not speak to her for a few days. Jean had taken this behaviour pattern into her own marriage of 40 years. If she and her husband had issues of disagreement, Jean would retreat inwardly and not speak to her husband as a form of punishment for 2 or 3 days. She was reciprocating the behaviour she had received at the hand of her mother. Until the Lord showed her, Jean had no idea where the root of her behaviour pattern had formed. She repented before the Lord, received forgiveness and asked Him to help her break free from it. Next day Jean and her husband had an issue of disagreement. Jean felt the old behaviour pattern rising up in her, but this time she called out to the Lord, “Please help me, Lord.” Her husband, used to a lifetime of the silent treatment remarked, “Oh, I suppose you are going into one of your sulks now!” But the Spirit of God spoke...

THINGS OF EARTH GROW STRANGELY DIM

When my eyes are on Jesus I begin to see things from His perspective and the things of earth grow strangely dim, as in His light things take on a different view. As I take counsel from Him He keeps me in perfect peace. When I focus on my problems or surroundings – the things of earth – I am troubled and become a “troubler.” Unrest not dealt with has consequences (ripples) to those around me. The old song is simple, yet profound: “Turn your eyes upon Jesus, Look full in His wonderful face, And the things of earth will grow strangely dim In the light of His glory and...

HOW TO GET RID OF IRRITATION

When a grain of sand enters the shell of the oyster it causes an irritation. To deal with it the oyster produces a substance to cover the irritant and amazingly, eventually a pearl is produced from the substance secreted over the irritation. Thus the oyster gives mankind a lesson in how to turn a negative in to a positive! A brother was experiencing great irritation from an unruly neighbour who constantly flicked his cigarette butts over his fence to land on his doorstep. The brother spent some time thinking up schemes to collect the butts and return them to the neighbour to get his revenge and return the annoyance……BUT GOD……the Lord interrupted his unruly thoughts and impressed on him to speak a blessing over his neighbour every time he found a cigarette butt on his doorstep, instead of being irritated and plotting revenge. Feeling convicted, the brother began to call out a blessing on the “offender of the doorstep” every time he found a butt there. In the process of time, he discovered that the problem no longer irritated him and he looked forward to blessing his neighbour. (Jesus on the inside, working on the outside – a line of a song comes to mind!) Even more amazing, the butt flicking eventually stopped altogether! So then, the Lord works with us to “love our neighbours as ourselves,” and when...

WHO DO WE TRUST IN?

By dwelling in the shadows of our own fleshly attributes, we shut out the glorious light of Jesus that could be filling and spilling out from our souls. When we put our trust in anything beside God, we set up a king, an idol, to which we give God’s glory away. When we trust in ourselves, we are sucking the breast of our own self-sufficiency – not the breast of Christ, our El Shaddai, and so Christ becomes a dry nurse to us – we forfeit His...

OFFENSE

Psalm 119:165 “Great peace have those who love Your law and NOTHING shall offend them.” Whenever I take offence, I am ALWAYS wrong. Until I come to grips with this issue, I forfeit the Presence of God in my...

BEGINNING BEFORE GOD

How we grieve the Spirit of God by not recognizing Him. Could we do this at a traffic light by proceeding forward at a red light? Of course not! BEGINNING BEFORE GOD BEGINS IS PRESUMPTION….CONTINUING AFTER GOD HAS FINISHED IS ANTI – CLIMAX. Abraham’s mistake produced Ishmael, Isaac was purpose. According to Ecclesiastes 3:1-8 “There is a time and a season to every purpose…” There is an appointed time in the order of God. The Spirit of God is at work in my life in what I term “waiting periods”….but God is very active at these times seeking to bring me to the place where I can sweetly say, as Jesus did, “Nevertheless, not My will, Father, but Thine be...

SETTLE IT IN YOUR HEART…….

Jeremiah 15:19 (Quoted from the Amplified Version) “Therefore thus says the Lord (to Jeremiah), if you return (give up this mistaken tone of distrust and despair), then I will give you again a SETTLED place of quiet and safety, and you shall be My minister; and if you separate the precious from the vile (cleansing your own heart from unworthy suspicions concerning God’s faithfulness), you shall be as My mouthpiece. (But do not yield to them.) Let them return to you – not you to the people.” God’s challenge comes to me from the above scripture. When my heart reacts to circumstances coming into my life that I dislike, my refusal to say “Amen” to Father results in depression. The above scripture exhorts us to “give up this mistaken tone of distrust and despair.” When I take on the cares and anxieties of circumstances, I judge God for what He has permitted and proceed in a downward spiral in my reasoning, falling out with God. I need to recognise that my first fallout is always with God. THE REASON OF THE HEART IS THE TREASON OF THE HEART. Reasoning is based on sense knowledge which God has given to us all- common sense – sense common to us all, but it is never final and can be over-ruled at any time by the promptings of the Spirit. Guidance by...
