By dwelling in the shadows of our own fleshly attributes, we shut out the glorious light of Jesus that could be filling and spilling out from our souls. When we put our trust in anything beside God, we set up a king, an idol, to which we give God’s glory away. When we trust in ourselves, we are sucking the breast of our own self-sufficiency – not the breast of Christ, our El Shaddai, and so Christ becomes a dry nurse to us – we forfeit His all-sufficiency.
